Lead Pastor
Travis Mitchell

Pastor Travis is married to his sweet, beautiful wife, Amber Joy. They have 4 children: Roman, Justice, Courage, and Shalom. Travis received his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Utah State University and his Masters of Divinity with an emphasis in Pastoral Counseling from Denver Seminary. He enjoys golfing, fishing, hiking, kayaking, learning about new cultures, eating good food (though he does not like bananas or beets) Some of his favorite movies is Remember the Titans, Miracle, Les Miserables, the Wild Robot. He is not afraid to cry in movies.
Fun Fact: He totaled a golf cart even though he was not in the golf cart (you will have to ask him about this).

Worship Pastor
Debs Vaughan

Debs has been serving as Worship Pastor at Montavilla for over a decade. Her heart is to create an atmosphere where people can come as they are, encounter God’s presence, and worship Him in spirit and in truth. Debs’ passion is to cultivate a lifestyle of thankfulness and remind every person that they are valued and deeply loved by God.
Fun fact: Debs has a fear of cruise ships. She firmly believes that being trapped on a floating karaoke machine is not a vacation.

Children's Pastor
Juliann Krosting

After serving faithfully in children’s ministry at Montavilla for 10 years, Juliann stepped into the role of Children’s Pastor earlier this year. She is passionate about connecting with kids and their families, creating a safe and joyful space where children can grow in their understanding of Jesus.
Fun Fact: When she’s not at church, Juliann enjoys spending time with her ever-growing backyard bunny collection

Missions Pastor
Brian Heerwagen

Brian serves as our Missions Pastor and his goal is that missions will be an ever-present and upbeat part of life at Montavilla Church. He loves to walk alongside our supported missionaries wherever they serve and to keep the church informed of how God is working around the world.
Brian believes: "It's not the circumstances that matter, it's what you do with 'em that does."

Youth Pastor
Eric Peterson
Eric Peterson, 37, serves as a youth pastor at Montavilla Church alongside his wife, Mary. Together, they lead and mentor students from middle school through high school. Eric and Mary are proud parents of four children: Ryan (13), Allie (12), Jack (10), and Sam (8).
Eric has been part of the Montavilla community since he was just two weeks old—and they still haven’t kicked him out! He began serving as a youth pastor in 2010 and continues to be passionate about guiding the next generation in their faith journey.
Fun Fact: Erik's childhood dream is to become an astronaut.

Youth Pastor & Facilities Manager
Mary Peterson
A Southeast Portland native, Mary is a wife, mother, and creative spirit with a deep passion for student ministry. She is committed to building soul-deep relationships and sharing the life-changing truth of Jesus.
Mary also loves being hands-on in maintaining and restoring the beautiful church building, ensuring it continues to serve the Montavilla community with excellence and care.
Fun Fact: Mary’s heart melts for sunflowers, pink cloud sunsets, and a perfectly tangy lemon bar.

Head Production Tech
Brett Busby

Brett leads the Production Team at Montavilla Church, overseeing audio, visual, and livestream systems that support Sunday worship and special events. With 15 years of ministry experience, he is passionate about using technology to create a distraction-free environment where people can engage fully in worship. Brett has attended Montavilla for 29 years and enjoys serving alongside his wife, Megan, as they raise their two kids.
Fun Fact: Knows the best mixes happen at church and the best creations happen with Legos.

Media Lead
Megan Busby
​Megan serves as the Media Lead at Montavilla Church, where she oversees the creation of announcements, worship slides, and sermon visuals for Sunday services. With a creative eye for detail, she’s passionate about using media to enhance worship and help people feel at home at Montavilla. A lifelong member of the church, Megan has attended Montavilla for 28 years and has served in her current role for the past 3. She also serves alongside her husband, Brett, as they raise their two children and share a heart for ministry. Fun Fact: Megan believes everything can be fixed with strong coffee and a good design.

Communications Director
Olya Ostapiuk
Olya is passionate about culture and creating spaces where people feel a deep sense of belonging. Originally from Ukraine, she brings a unique and thoughtful approach to communication within the Montavilla community. She is dedicated to crafting messages that connect, inspire, and reflect the heart of the community.
Fun Fact: She had four years of perfect solfège score—thanks to sharp eyesight, not sharp hearing. Her teacher eventually caught on (you will have to ask her about this).
